Centro Nacional de Cirugía de Mínimo Acceso

Ginecology

Since 2000, laparoscopic gynecologic surgery is performed at the National Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery by general surgeons with experience in conventional gynecologic surgery. During all this time, much experience has been gained therefore allowing laparoscopic treatment for gynecologic cancer in its initial stages to be performed at present. All this has been possible thanks to the solid education acquired at the Cuban School of Surgery and laparoscopy and has been consolidated through academic exchanges with different professors of international prestige, such as Harry Reich, who performed the first laparoscopic hysterectomy, Eugenio Volpi, consultant and in charge of new techniques in gynecologic surgery at Mauriziano Hospital, Turin, Italy, among others. The group of certified and accredited professors that perform basic and advanced laparoscopic procedures has been trained in international high-level centers, such as Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, the Minimally Invasive Surgery section of the Faculty of Medicine at the Eberhard Karls University, in Tubingen, Germany, the Telesurgery European Institute in Strasbourg, and Clermont Ferrand´s Endoscopic Surgery International Center, in France.

Benign and Malignant Adnexa Diseases

Adnexal masses are one of the main complaints at the gynecology consultation of our Center. The term adnexal mass is quite nonspecific and is frequently used regarding an ovarian tumor or cyst, since tubarian disease is less frequent, mostly associated to inflammatory processes including the ovary or pregnancy.
Treatment can be medical although in most patients a surgical procedure is required, thus minimally invasive surgery plays a crucial role in the approach of adnexal masses.
Exploration laparoscopy is an essential diagnostic and therapeutic procedure not only for benign adnexal masses but also as an excellent alternative to approach malignant adnexal masses or suspicious ones; it can be completely successful or contribute to staging.

Uterine Fibroma

Symptomatic uterine fibroma is one of the main complaints in our Center. Most patients require surgical treatment, thus hysterectomy is one of the most frequently performed surgeries worldwide.
Laparoscopic hysterectomy is the treatment of choice at our center.
